This classic sugar cookie is the ultimate, crumbly, melt-in- your-mouth cookie. Be sure to let them cool completely before storing away.
1 cup butter (no substitutes) 1 cup vegetable oil
1 cup granulated sugar 1 cup powdered sugar 1 egg (large or better)
1 tablespoon vanilla extract 1 teaspoon salt
1.5 teaspoons cream of tartar 1 teaspoon baking soda
3 - 4 cups of all purpose flower
The flower should be added up to the complete 3 cups. Continue adding just until dough forms a ball in your hand that does not stick easily.
Combine the butter, oil, sugars, egg, and vanilla in a large mixing bowl. Mix on high until very well incorporated and somewhat airy. Combine 3 cups of the flour with the other dry ingrediants and add in 1 cup increments while mixing on low. Add flour per ingredients note as needed.
Drop by 1 ounce scoop unto ungreased cookie sheet. Flatten to 1/4 inch with bottom of glass buttered and dipped in sugar or colored cookie decorations. Bake at 375 until golden edged, 11-13 minutes on average.
